The Health & Safety Executive (HSE) has launched a six-month public consultation on proposed restrictions of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in firefighting foams.

Known as “forever chemicals,” PFAS are highly persistent in the environment and have been linked to both environmental contamination and health risks. The consultation, running until 18 February 2026, invites businesses, industry groups, and stakeholders to provide feedback on how these restrictions could be applied in practice.

HSE has published a detailed scientific analysis — the Annex 15 restriction report — to support evidence-based decisions. The goal is to balance fire safety requirements with the urgent need to reduce environmental harm and long-term chemical risks.

Qualvaris Perspective
At QUALVARIS, we recognise that chemical management is a growing challenge for organisations. PFAS restrictions highlight the importance of forward planning and proactive compliance. We support businesses in reviewing current practices, preparing for regulatory changes, and implementing safer, more sustainable solutions that protect both people and the planet.
