A chemical company has been fined £100,000 after a worker suffered life-changing burn injuries in an incident involving a high-pressure steam hose.

The Health & Safety Executive (HSE) investigation revealed that the company failed to implement effective risk controls. The injured worker had been exposed to an uncontrolled release of steam, resulting in permanent burn damage.

HSE inspectors highlighted that the incident could have been prevented with robust risk assessments, clear procedures, and better hazard awareness training. The prosecution serves as a reminder of the importance of strong safety management in high-risk environments.
